THE VIIIth CONFERENCE
of the International Committee for the Conservation of Mosaics, ICCM,
Thessaloniki, Greece, October 2002

The VIIIth Conference of the International Committee for the Conservation of Mosaics will be held from 29 October until 3 November 2002, in Thessaloniki/Greece. The conference is organized by the International Committee for the Conservation of Mosaics, the Ephoreia of Byzantine Antiquities of Thessaloniki and the European Centre of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments, under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture and with the support of ICCROM.
The subject of the VIIIth Conference of ICCM is “Wall and Floor Mosaics: Conservation, Maintenance, Presentation”. The languages in official use during the meeting will be English, French and Greek. A table-ronde concerning the Early Christian mosaics of Rotonda will be included in the programme.
In addition, a display of posters with informative material relative to the subject of the papers will frame the conference. Visits at monuments and archeological sites of Thessaloniki and its environs will also be organised.

The conference will be held at Eptapyrgion, the Medieval citadel of Thessaloniki. From 1890 until 1989 Eptapyrgion was used as a prison. Since 1990 the Greek Ministry of Culture has been restoring and developing Eptapyrgion with additional funding from the European Union (REPRISE Program).

The Organizing Committee is composed of the following members: Panagiota Assimakopoulou-Atzaka, Byzantine Research Centre, University of Thessaloniki, Charalambos Bakirtzis, Ephoreia of Byzantine Antiquities of Thessaloniki, Federico Guidobaldi, Centro di Conservazione Opere d’ Arte, CNR, Rome, Eutychia Kourkoutidou-Nikolaïdou, European Centre of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments, Thessaloniki, Henri Lavagne, École des Hautes Études, Paris, Demetrios Michaelides, Archeological Research Unit, University of Cyprus, Nicosia, Nikolaos Minos, Directorate for the Conservation of Antiquities, Greek Ministry of Culture, Roberto Nardi, Centro di Conservazione Archeologica, Rome.
The first circular of the conference has already been sent to the members of ICCM. The admission fee has been set to 20 Euro and especially for ICCM members, students and accompanying people to 10 Euro. The participation-inscription forms together with summaries of the papers and the posters attached should be returned, until the 31rst January 2002, to the Secretariat of the Conference:
