The complexity and delicacy of the conservation treatment of two sculptures of outstanding historical and archaeological value the two Centaurs from Hadrians Villa" will be followed live or from close up, permitting the visitor to understand the extent of the commitment that a museum such as the Capitoline makes daily to protect the masterpieces in its care.
The fragility of cultural heritage, the effort necessary to maintain it, and especially the importance of its conservation are all themes of general interest: everyone should be aware of this and participate in it. Cultural heritage is common and universal property: everyone has the right of access to it, as well as sharing responsibility for passing it on to posterity.
The conservation treatment is being conducted from 21 September to 21 December in the great hall of the Capitoline Museum by the CCA Centro di Conservazione Archeologica of Rome. Visitors will be able to follow the technical operations close up and talk to the conservators of the work.
Parallel to the conservation worksite, the Capitoline Museum and the CCA have organized a series of cultural activities to foster understanding of the themes of the intervention and also to stimulate experiences and emotions that will contribute to consolidating and preserving the memory of a visit to a conservation worksite. Guided visits for schoolchildren, explanations for the public, a literary contest and a photographic contest are among the initiatives that await the visitor to the Capitoline Museum.
